Jody Gray Upholstery is a family run business located at Wath Court near Hovingham. As trained upholsterers we pride ourselves on the care and craftmanship that we bestow on every piece of furniture placed in our care.
We offer a tailored upholstery service suited to your individual requirements and use the highest quality tools and materials to ensure that each piece is completed to the very highest standard. Our collection and delivery service makes reviving your furniture as hassle free as possible.
We are partnered with Wath Court Fabrics allowing you to source the best fabrics at the best prices.
For commercial customers we offer a range of services, from individual items to full scale recovers. We have access to a wide range of crib5 contract fabrics at highly competitive rates.
If you have the urge to try your hand at upholstery yourself and require tools or resources we sell these from our workshop. Check out our shop page for details on prices.

Welcome to Jody Gray upholstery school.....
Whether you are new to the upholstery craft looking to learn new skills and get creative or someone with previous experience looking for a greater challenge, we have the course or workshop to suit you.
Whichever course you choose, you will be provided with expert tuition from your tutor who has over 20 years teaching experience. Class sizes are kept small (maximum 6 people per session) allowing for plenty of one-to-one support to guide you through your project.
Rather than using the past ‘traditional’ upholstery methods, all of our courses and workshops use modern tools, materials and techniques; guns instead of hammers, staples instead of tacks, foam instead of horsehair. No previous experience is necessary as you will be fully introduced to these tools and techniques as part of the course.
You will be amazed at what you can create in a relatively short amount of time using these methods and the professional finish that can be achieved.
Workshops

Whether you are new to the upholstery craft or someone with previous experience looking for a greater challenge, our weekly workshops are suitable for all.
All our workshops are flexible, simply book a session that is convenient to you on a pay as you go basis. Our workshops are all 3 hours long and cost £40 per session.
Refreshments are provided during our sessions and we have ample parking onsite. Should you also need fabric for your project this can be purchased next door at Wath Court Fabrics and if you don't have a project piece we can provide footstool frames to order.

COMMERCIAL
Jody Gray offers a range of services to commercial clients from basic repairs and recovers to large scale re-upholstery projects as well as bespoke banquette and booth seating.
We are happy to quote for any size job, be it a single chair or one hundred, and can work to a lead time to accommodate for your cash flow. We are able to source fabric from a range of suppliers to meet your requirements and budget.

FABRIC
Choosing Your Fabric
It is important that before making your fabric choice you consider certain factors, detailed below. We would recommend you seek our advice prior to purchasing any fabric.
Usage
The easiest way to decide if a fabric will be suitable is to look at its thread count. The higher the thread count, the more tightly woven the fabric is, and the better the wear will be. A well known test is the Martindale Test, which scores the wear of a fabric. We would recommend a minimum rub count of over 30,000 for any upholstery work.
Fire Retardency
Fabrics used for fixed domestic upholstery must, with some exceptions, legally comply with The Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations 1988. If you wish to use a fabric that is not fire retardant then we can have the fabric treated at an additional cost.
Fabric Suppliers
We are able to source fabric from all the main suppliers via our sister company Wath Court Fabrics, where you will also find a wide range of upholstery weight fabric on the roll. Please note that a 10% surcharge is applicable to upholstery work where fabric is supplied from elsewhere.
